What is causing this Error?
The Shift4 Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG) service needs to be manually installed when it cannot be located in the Windows Services list. Installing it will register the program with the Windows Services list.
How do I resolve this Error?
To install The Service:
- Start Windows Command Prompt or Windows PowerShell. Refer to Access Windows Command Prompt or PowerShell for additional information.
- In the black\blue window that comes up, type in [the path of UTG service executable] –install, and then select Enter. For example, if the UTG was installed on the C: drive:
c:\shift4\utg2\utg2svc.exe -install
You should get one of the below responses after selecting Enter.
- Service Installed Successfully
- This completes the service refresh and should now show in the Windows Services list.
- The system cannot find the path specified.
- This means the input location is either mistyped or not the valid install directory for the Shift4 UTG2svc.exe.
- 'x:\shift4\utg2\utg2svc.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
- This means the Install Location Directory is correct but the actual utg2svc.exe file is missing from the install folder.
The UTG Service executable must be in place for the service to be manually installed. The executable, named utg2svc.exe, is located in the directory \Shift4\UTG2. This directory is installed on the C: drive by default. Be aware, this may have been installed on a different drive.
-
If the utg2svc.exe is not in the Shift4\UTG2 folder, follow the UTG update process (refer to Manually update the UTG) to put the file in the folder this should also resolve the Missing UTG Service issue.
