Description: The EMV Devices page within Lighthouse Transaction Manager (LTM) is where all EMV devices are configured for use with the Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG).
Each merchant account is set up with a restricted number of allowed processing terminals; this number should match the number of processing terminals you have set up with your merchant processor.
Important: If you don't have any unused configurations and need to add another processing terminal, you will need to speak to your merchant processor to set up another terminal account and then speak to our Account Maintenance group to have this linked to the Shift4 account.
To set up or make changes to a new EMV terminal, log in to your Lighthouse Transaction Manager (LTM) Account Administrator or user with EMV device access and navigate to the Settings tab, then EMV Devices.
Selecting EMV Devices will redirect to a page where you can review or set up terminal settings for a connected EMV device. If you want to set up or make changes to the terminal settings, select the Device ID number for the device you wish to edit.
Note: Typically, four digits like "0001".
Note: If you have multiple accounts, you will see each account name listed with a “+” icon next to it. Clicking this will expand the view of configured terminals for that expanded account. It should be noted that not all EMV terminal configurations might be in use and may look blank.
After making a selection, this will open to a device configuration page. Determine the following:
- API TID [Required]: The device name assigned to the device by the interface provider for this device
- The same API TID assigned in the Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG) for the device
- Device Serial [Required]: The unique serial number assigned to this device hardware by the manufacturer
- EMV Terminal Settings [Optional]: Changes the way data is handled and requested on the device hardware
- Enable Fall Back: Allows the terminal to fall back to the magnetic swipe if the EMV chip read fails
- Disable EMV Reader in Offline Mode: Disables EMV acceptance when the system is in offline mode and allows swipe processing
- Prefer US Common Debit: Defaults the payment type to U.S. Common Debit, if this is an accepted type on the customer’s card
- If disabled and the customer's card is both debit and credit, an option will be provided to the customer on the payment method used
- Quick Chip: Allows the user to remove their chip card from the terminal faster
- Enable Cashback: Allows users to select if they want cashback during checkout
- You can either enable cashback prompting or tip prompting, but not both
- Enable Tip Prompting (Canadian Devices Only): Enable tip prompting for Ingenico CPX devices
- You can either enable cashback prompting or tip prompting, but not both
- Unattended: Identifies the terminal as unattended
- PIN Bypass: Allows the user, if prompted, for a PIN code to hit the cancel button to attempt to bypass their PIN entry; however, the bank can still decline this action if they choose not to honor the bypass request
- Cardholder Verification Methods: Methods a customer can validate they are the owner of the supplied payment card on the payment terminal:
- Offline Plaintext Pin: Allows the card to process with a gathered PIN while offline
- Offline Encrypted Pin: Allows the card to process with a gathered PIN while offline
- Online Encrypted Pin: Allows the card to process with a gathered PIN while online
- Signature: Allows the card to process with a gathered signature
- No CVM: Allows the card to process without validation from the cardholder
Important: Changes to these settings may affect your merchant processing agreement with your Merchant Service Provider (MSP) or Independent Sales Organization (ISO). Before making any changes to this data, please speak to them first to avoid any increase in transactional fees or loss of chargeback defense.
Once all of the settings listed above are set, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save or Save and Next, to be brought to the next EMV terminal setting page.
Important: Do not change anything in EMV Application ID Settings, as it will auto-populate after connecting. Making changes to this data could result in the inability to process and should only be changed if instructed by a Shift4 agent.
After any changes are done, you will need to perform a Terminal Download to finish pulling the settings to the device.
